Best AI Clip Maker 2026: 5 Tools Tested

An AI clip maker takes a long video — a podcast, a stream, a tutorial — picks the moments worth posting, reframes them to 9:16 and adds captions. Every one of them claims to do this well. What separates them is what you can actually get out of them, and what that costs.

We ran five of them: OpusClip, Vizard AI, Submagic, Quso.ai and Klap. Four got the identical 90-second public-domain NASA clip, so differences in output are differences in the tools, not the footage. We downloaded every file a tool would give us and inspected it with ffprobe and frame extraction.

What this page does not do: tell you which tool will grow your channel. We have no way to measure that, and neither does anyone else writing these lists. It tells you what each tool hands back, so you can judge the output yourself.

How to pick an AI clip maker

Pick by the job you need done, not by the feature list. Every tool lists clipping, captions and reframing; they differ in what you can verify before paying.

You have long videos and want clips picked for you. That is OpusClip or Vizard. Both select moments, reframe to 9:16 and burn in captions, and both let a free account download the result, so you can judge clip selection on your own footage before paying anything. OpusClip's free export is higher resolution; Vizard's needs no account at all.

You already cut your clips and need captions. That is Submagic. It is not a long-video clipper in the same sense — it is built around caption styling, hooks and an editor preview.

Your audio is full of pauses. No tool here removes silences on a free plan, and Vizard does not offer it at any price. OpusClip includes it on Starter at $15/month; Submagic only from its second paid tier. Details in which AI video tools remove silences.

You want to publish clips without a watermark and pay nothing. Only Submagic's API did this in our testing, with a small allowance — 10 API minutes a month on a trial account — and it needs an API key and a public video URL.

OpusClip — best for judging quality before paying

On 14 September 2026 we exported a clip from OpusClip's permanent free plan (60 credits a month — not the 7-day Pro trial) with Download HD. The file was a real 1080×1920 MP4, 26.5 seconds, 795 frames. The export cost zero credits; the one credit spent went on generation.

The OpusClip logo is composited into the pixels, so no remover can strip it cleanly. It is absent for roughly the first four seconds and fades in around five seconds — a very short clip carries little branding, a normal-length one is marked for most of its runtime. Clips stop being exportable after three days on the free plan.

Since August the free plan no longer warns you at download: the file just renders, and you find the mark when you open it.

Vizard AI — best for trying it with no account

Vizard runs the whole pipeline without an account: paste a link, get a set of watermarked 720p clips, download them. Signing up extends how long a project is kept, from 24 hours to 3 days, and gives you 60 credits a month at 1 credit per minute of video.

Free exports are capped at 720p — we downloaded 720×1280 files from a 1080p source on 25 August 2026, across both of Vizard's clipping models. The "made with Vizard.ai" mark sits in the upper right of every frame; we sampled it at 1, 2, 5, 20, 45 and 68 seconds with no fade-in and no gap. In our 27-second test, the 9:16 reframe did not keep the subject centred, so check framing on your own footage.

Vizard does not offer silence or filler-word removal on any plan.

Paying: watermark removal is on Creator and Business. Creator is $29/month billed monthly, or $14.5/month on annual billing ($174/year) — Vizard's pricing page opens on the yearly view, so the lower figure is the one you see first. Full teardown: Does Vizard AI add a watermark?

Submagic — best for captions on clips you already have

Submagic's free tier is now a Trial plan with 15 credits a month. Captions generate and the editor previews them, but pressing Export in the editor returns "Your video's ready — upgrade to export." We confirmed that on 27 August and again on 22 September 2026.

Its API is the exception. On 22 September we sent the same 90-second NASA clip through it on the trial account: it returned a 16MB, 1080×608, 90-second H.264 file with captions burned in and no Submagic watermark in any corner. The trial carries 10 API minutes a month, separate from the editor credits; a second trial account checked on 24 September had the same 10 minutes.

Paying: editor export starts on Starter, $19/month billed monthly ($12/month on annual billing). Silence and filler-word removal start at Pro, not Starter. Full teardown: Submagic watermark.

Quso.ai — the free plan never produced a clip

Quso's pricing page describes a free tier with 75 credits a month and watermarked 720p exports. We could not reach it. On two accounts, on 12 May and 27 August 2026, upload was accepted and credits were quoted, and Generate clips returned an upgrade modal both times. By August the prompt had moved earlier, appearing on upload.

So we have never seen a Quso clip or its watermark, and we will not describe either. There is no way to judge its clipping without paying.

Klap — no free plan at all

Klap's pricing page lists only paid plans: Basic, Pro and Pro+. On 18 September 2026 its trial dashboard showed a 120-clip allowance — more than Basic grants — yet generated nothing, and the product never named the plan or its expiry. We have not seen a Klap clip. Detail in the five-tool test.

How we tested

• Same footage. OpusClip, Vizard, Submagic and Quso got the identical 90-second, 1080×608 clip from NASA's Artemis II Flight Day 8 highlights (public domain).
• Files, not screenshots. Where a tool gave us a download, we inspected it with ffprobe and pulled frames across the timeline to find the watermark.
• Free tiers and trials only. We have not run a paid account on any of these tools. Paid-tier claims on this page come from vendor documentation and are labelled as such.
• USD prices come from each vendor's pricing page read through our automated price monitor, which refuses foreign-currency renders rather than guessing.

It depends on what you need to check before paying. OpusClip gives the highest-resolution free file (1080×1920) and the cheapest paid entry at $15/month. Vizard AI is the only one that works without an account. Submagic is the pick if you already have clips and need captions. Quso.ai and Klap produced nothing on a free tier, so they cannot be judged without paying.

Is there a free AI clip maker with no watermark?
